Film Fun

Over the weekend I had the chance to shoot a little film with a few, almost exclusively, film photographers in the area, 1 and 2. It was a great experience. I think I would only ever feel comfortable using film for my own personal work, but it's definitely something I have always wanted to do more. I am most familiar with 35mm. I shot it about 70% of the time until I started charging for shoots. But there is a whole realm of film photography to tap into. It's rather intimidating.

These are just a few shots from the day. They had two chickens roaming around the property and I was determined to photograph them. They were good replacements for my cat.

  1. Film photography is so... cool. there's really not much like it, it's completely different than digital photography, and really, really neat.
It's very fun, i think, and the shots... I don't know, they sort of seem to come out, better, in a way... I'm not really sure how to describe it.

but, these are absolutely beautiful shots!

  2. Lovely photos, B! I guess I need some roosters around so I don't fill up my camera with pictures of my cat, haha.

  3. Bri, when I returned to film photography after being so into digital photography, I actually liked the feeling of being out of my element and exploring something new. Then after a while I found that the images that I really gravitated towards were the ones I took on film. For some reason, the look and process of film helped me express myself easier. I love these shots you took. Maybe we should head out for a chicken shoot. I have several friends with a bunch.

  4. Wow those are such beautiful shots! Are you part of a photographers society in your area? I'm living in a new town and finding it kind of challenging meeting like-minded creative people. So I hope you won't mind me asking how you get involved to collaborate on these cool little projects when you're a new kid on the block?

  7. I love chickens! They're so funny even when they're doing simple things like walking around and eating. I painted a whole series awhile back of watercolor chickens. How cute!

  9. Beautiful photos. I wish film wasn't so expensive, if it wasn't I would probably use my digital camera a lot less. Film has a more raw feel to it which I like better.

  10. Are these on film? I barely noticed! I love the gold light you captured too :-) A friend of mine is an avid film photographer and she uses a 35mm too. I haven't tried it myself yet, because I don't want to do the art any injustice :-) xo
