Photo A Day // September

For the last few months I have grown rather weary of instagram. I've enjoyed doing this 365 with my phone and it's only been natural for me to post them on instagram. It's probably just me, but I feel like the app has become a not-so-friendly place. By that I mean, I don't feel like I can post what I want without second guessing myself. It's become pretentious and a who has the prettier aesthetic? competition. I've felt the need to keep up with it all and it's worn me down.

I haven't deleted my account and I'm not saying I'm done with it forever. But I've taken a break. A break from checking it every hour. A break from going places with the intent of taking pictures instead of enjoying myself with loved ones. It has been so refreshing. I hope to come back to it at some point and feel different. As with all social media, instagram is a train that waits for no one. But all of this is so not important in my life. I'm really missing nothing being away from it. Like really, I'm not missing it.

When my body is telling me to take a break, I need to start listening sooner.

  2. I admire that you have been keeping up with these daily iphone snaps and they're damn beautiful! But I totally understand how it can be tiresome and the pressure of making sure it's "a good one" that will get lots of likes. I feel the same way about blogging too, capturing activities with the camera, all when sometimes I'd rather enjoy the moment, see the beautiful smile of a loved one or friend with my own eyes and not through a camera lens.

  4. instagram and blog for yourself, not for others. who cares about the number of likes and followers? easier said than done of course, but it's worth reminding ourselves why we started these things up in the first place. glad you're feeling refreshed! :)

  8. beautiful photos! sigh, I have a love-hate relationship with instagram. the whole visual aspect of it makes it my fav social media channel (since I'm a visual person) but I agree with you that it's become more and more about who's account is prettier, "better", etc. it's starting to wear me down too
