50mm Lens

This was going to be a fun little review of my awesome new lens that I got a few weeks ago. And then this morning when I was uploading pictures, I somehow elbowed my camera off the desk and it landed face down. Now the focus on this precious lens is broken. I am going to try not to cry about it and call around to see if I can get it repaired.

Until then, I have really loved playing with this new toy. It has the perfect depth of field. I've never had a fixed lens before and I thought it would be a hassle, but it rarely gets in the way. I guess I am kind of eating my words from before when I said my thing about lenses. A good lens really does make a huge difference. I bought mine here.

Well, this has been very painful to write since we had such a short time together. Is it okay to cry? I feel like it should be. Please, oh please, be repairable. If I could go back in time!

  1. My heart goes out to you on your lens mishap! I once had a really great camera and I wrecked while jumping out the back of a moving pickup truck...yea, I don't KNOW! Why didn't I just wait like a normal person? I hope you can get it repaired!

  2. Yes, it is okay to cry. And these photos are fantastic. Glad you like a 50mm lens. It's by far my favorite lens because it yields the best photographs! Like you said, amazing depth of field!

  3. My 50mm is my absolute favourite! It's my boyfriend's favourite, too...and he steals it from me all the time. This post reminded me to steal it back while he's out of the house today!

  4. Oh my! That is terrible you just dropped it:/ I'm sure it is repairable! I love my 50mm, I think the only hassle is asking someone to take a picture and they ask "where is the zoom out?!" Ha!

  7. i think i would die without my 50mm. it's always, always on my camera. i'm excited to see you take more photos with it -- once it's repaired o'course.

and it seems like such a small difference, but once you save your pennies up & spring for the 1.4, you are going to be on CLOUD. NINE.

  8. I have this same lens and I absolutely love it! While I'm sure it's funny for other people to watch me running back and forth to get the shot, the fixed-lens aspect really doesn't bother me.

I hope you're able to get it fixed!

  11. Oh, I love me some 1.8! I have the same for Nikon. But I keep dreaming of 85 mm 1.2 and 50mm 1.2! :)
Sorry you broke it, though :( Hope you find a solution!

  17. Oh that is so sad! I have a 50mm f/1.4 that fell off an antique chest i have in my apartment. as fate would have it the 2 foot fall happened to hit it the wrong way and break it. Luckily it was easily fixable! thank goodness, i call it my magic lens, i've had it for over a year and i'm still smitten with it!

I hope it gets fixed soon!!!

  24. if you just bought it, you can send it in to canon! they come with a 1 year warranty. I bought mine off amazon too. as long as you can prove when you bought it, they'll fix it for free up to one year after purchase!! I've had to get mine fixed three times...yeah. haha. lovely photos though and good luck!
