1. I find confidence in this sentence: “I am a child of God, and I have incredible value.”
2. I find confidence in my sensitivity.
3. I find confidence in doing small things with great love.
My first memory is of me at age three and a half, painting the side of our house with a tube of my mom’s bright red lipstick. I also used the lipstick to draw a streak across the face of my favorite stuffed animal: a pink rabbit, appropriately named “pink bunny.” maybe that’s why I’ve always been fascinated with the first five words of Genesis: “In the beginning, God created...” -- because my first memory is of creation, too. and my love of creating, of treating the mundane with great reverence, has never dwindled, nor has my fascination with a God who creates & loves us individually. But the red lipstick story is one of my louder endeavors. I, like my pink lipstick, am one of the soft ones, the quieter ones. I’m incorrigibly sensitive. It’s the quality that makes me empathetic, but also over-sentimental. It ends up I’m more like the bunny that got lipsticked than the hand behind it -- gentle, feeling, affected. I cry at every movie, and I still feel guilty about that thanksgiving when I was eight and dropped my mom’s favorite plates. But i’ve learned (or I’m starting to) that my sensitivity is not just a part of me, but my purpose, too.
I found Bridget's blog awhile back and she has been one of my favorites ever since. She is so sweet and takes such beautiful photos. We will hopefully be real life friends soon since we live closer now. Find more of her at Deer Circus. Thank you so much, Bridget!
