Modest Is Hottest

top: Forever21, skirt: thrifted, shoes: Target
I have had an internal battle for a little while about sharing outfits on here. I love clothes. Creating outfits is a fun form of expression, but I have been asking myself why I want to share them with others. It wasn't until last week when I was wandering between the racks at Forever21 that I realized why I share my outfits. As I picked up what felt like the millionth dress with practically no bottom (seriously ladies, how do you sit down in those? The answer is you can't) I sighed to myself and thought, "It's almost impossible to find cute, modest clothes these days." Thus resolving my internal conflict. However small my voice may be, I want to shout hoorahs to modest clothing and show that it is possible! It's possible to feel pretty and to love your outfits with sleeves. It's also possible to buy modest clothing without spending $70 on one item...(I'm lookin' at you Shabby Apple...) If you are reading this and have had similar feelings of helplessness in clothing stores, I hope that you will know you are not alone! You are not the only person frustrated by the limited choices. Let's help each other out and not compromise our standards. Three cheers for wearing clothes that cover us!

I agree. It is so hard to find clothes that don't share way to much with other people!! Thank you for standing up for those of us who like to look pretty, not trashy!!

I agree! That's why we only sell modest clothes at ModernModesty.com. Most of our clothing is $39 or less.

True that! I love all your outfits. They are fashionable, and modest :) There is hope out there for us covered girls. Thanks :)

This is why I love looking at your outfits! I am really busty (it's the way I was born) but I also really don't enjoy showing it to the world. So keep on posting!

Also, I love the skirt you're wearing in these photos!

i know exactly what you mean. its the exact same with swimsuits as well i feel like. both end up being way way more expensive. but cheaper modest close are definitely hard to come by, especially when they are "sylish." you're really cute :)

Finally someone on the blogging world who takes a stand for modesty!!! :) YAYYYY!! Modest is Hottest is sooo true! Luckily for me, since I'm so short, I have a little bit of better luck finding longer bottoms for skirts/dresses, but a lot of the time I don't, and its soo frustrating!!

Love,

Amen (again)! Also, I love your flats. I own them, but they got a hole in the toe from wearing them practically every day for a whole semester.

Agree 100%! I love all your outfits, fashionable and modest.

Have you ever tried finding modest clothing for a 6 year old little girl? Impossible!! I get so frustrated trying to shop for my daughter....some of the clothing isn't appropriate for a 26 year old, much less a 6 year old! :)

i like this post because I agree with what you've said. I don't think that clothes are the most important thing in the world (although I do love pretty things) but I think it's really important to know that there are beautiful, fashionable and modest women out there.

I have a variety of shorter dresses and short shorts and, though shorts I can be comfortable in, I would STILL choose pants over shorts. And long skirts over short dresses. If I feel like my boobs are going to pop out of a shirt, no matter how much I love it, I won't wear it. It's not even like I CHOOSE to be modestly dressed, I just PREFER it naturally. Short dresses don't feel 'me', I have literally given away every short skirt I own, and I only wear shorts that ACTUALLY cover my booty, and that I can sit cross legged in without worrying about accidentally exposing things.

I love this outfit and this post, thank you very much for sharing. It's good to hear others feel the same!

i don't consider myself a "modest" person but i guess i am. i always feel like a sucker trying on clothes at f21...they're more like tops! and i agree, shopping more conservatively (loft, j.crew) is soooo pricey. GRR

I agree with you 100% I love clothes and I like feeling comfortable in my clothes, I think now a days girls wear less clothes! I mean awesome that they have the most amazing bodies, but have they ever heard sometimes its just too little, too short...? Maybe a little too tight as well? I like things that feel soft and cool on my skin and lots of different colors and shoes, but skirts are too short now a days or too tight and I'm like... 0.O noo way.. lol I try to focus on clothes that make me feel better and items that I will be able to mix and match with other clothes/accessories or shoes that I have. Please stay beautiful and creative! BTW I LOVE YOUR BOOK COLLECTION! <3

I know what you mean.. I've always been passionate about modesty, and I'm slightly in like with fashion, too. I've had to develop a unique style to satisfy my conscience. :P But when you stay strong and do it with grace you end up being an inspiration for other women, too!! Good job.

OH MY GOSH. This is like, the most wonderful post I have seen in a LONG LONG time. You are practical and I love that. I'm an LDS college student and so I am SUPER poor and don't have much money to spend on clothes. I love the fact that we can take advantage of places like Savers and find ourselves some good modest clothes without spending a fortune. Thank you so much for posting this, it is GREATLY appreciated.

Love that your sharing this and helping others finding modest, cute styles!
The other night, walking down the streets of San Francisco, I saw AT LEAST 5 girls all wearing the same tube style dress that hit, literally, at their crotch. They were all pulling and tugging at their dresses.
It just seems so uncomfortable! : (
Modest IS hottest. : )

I love how you pair graphic t shirts with skirts. It's such a simple but pretty look! You've inspired me to give it a try. I have so many shirts I never wear because I feel like they'll make me look too sporty or whatever.

Also, I totally hear you on the modesty thing... I will never understand why anyone would want to hobble down the sidewalk in crazy shoes and a dress that covers almost nothing.

I love this outfit! So simple, cute, fresh, and yet vintage-esque! I am short, and I don't like very short clothes....That and I think it's not age appropriate for me anymore. Sometimes less is more and I think it is definitely more classy. -Jessica

Thank you!! I love this! It's so hard to find modest clothing, I agree! When I was in high school, I went to a Lutheran private school, and part of our dress code was that our shirts had to come up to our collar bone. I challenge anyone to come up with a school year worth of cute outfits where the shirt comes up to your collar bone. It was SOOOOO hard so you end up having to bend over backwards to make not modest pieces modest. So I totally understand the struggle.

bee i absalutely agree, your so very right, i feel the same way! im only 13 but some of the choices avaliable ..... oh dear for whoever wears them!!! Thoose shorts that are well super short that lots of girls are wearing - its gross! i think everyone should wear cute skirts and t shirts like you!!!

I agree 100%! It really bothers me when I see people my age (I'm almost 13) dressed really inappropriate. And yet another reason not to shop at Forever 21? It is one of the top five American corporations with the worst sweatshops in the world.

i totally agree with everything you have mentioned. Headed to BYU-I in the fall, people think it is crazy to have to wear pants all the time, but then i think about how happy i am that i dont have to see girls flashing everyone on our beautiful campus! plus, long skirt... are a total must this fall.
thanks!

It's definitely frustrating! I get so angry looking for a dress or a skirt that doesn't ride up or won't flash my ass if I try to pick something up.

I love this!!! Thank you thank you thank you!! I started an op shop/thrifting/secondhand challenge at the beginning of July, and ever since just walking into department stores or actual clothing stores with my friends or Mum or whatever makes me feel sad. It reminds me of feeling like I was doomed to wearing clothing that I'm not comfortable in, because there just wasn't anything else around. Thank goodness I've found a way out of it, and thank goodness for this post that lets me know I'm not alone!! Good on you :) Rhi xx
